Cray User Group

The CUG Organizational Structure

The business of CUG takes place within various components of our organization. There is an elected Board of Directors, a Program Lead Committee, an Advisory Council, plus Special Interest Groups (SIGs), Cray liaisons, and other ad hoc working committees.

A revised SIG structure is being introduced for this year. Moving from the platform centric structure of the past few years, we are trying a subject area arrangement this year, with four SIGs: Legacy Systems, User Support, Applications and Programming Environment, and Systems Support. The “User Support” SIG deals with issues related to User Services. The “Systems Support” SIG covers issues related to Operations, Systems & Integration, and Operating Systems. The “Applications and Programming Environment” SIG addresses the subjects shown under these topics in the table below. Finally, we have organized a “Legacy Systems” SIG to provide a forum for owners of systems no longer sold but still being supported and maintained by Cray.

All conference programs, as well as the general technical focus of the organization, stem from the following Special Interest Group subject areas shown plus items of interest to Legacy platforms:

Applications Programming Environment

In-house & 3rd Party Software

Compilers

Performance

Libraries

Visualization

Tools

Operating Systems Systems and Integration

Linux

Architectures

UNICOS

Grid Computing

System Support

Mass Storage

Tuning & OS Optimization

Networking

Security

Operations User Services

System Operations

Account Administration

Facilities and Site Prep

Consulting

Environmental Monitoring

Documentation

Training

Each of these SIGs has a chairperson to lead the effort and a special liaison from Cray. This ensures that every component of CUG interest is represented and adequately covered within our business, our interactions with Cray, and within our technical programs.

The CUG Program Lead Committee (PLC) is responsible for creating a conference program that meets the needs of the CUG members. Their objective is to assemble a diverse array of detail-packed presentations in General and Parallel Technical Sessions, Tutorials, and Special Interest Group meetings. Recommendations for improvements or additions to the conference program should be addressed to the Program Chair.
