Dear CUG Members,
The University of Manchester is delighted to be chosen as the host for the CUG SUMMIT 2002. Manchester is located in the northwest of England approximately 200 miles from London, and the university is located in the city centre. The University of Manchester grew from its humble beginnings as Owens College in 1851 to become the first of the UK's great civic universities. As a full-range university it now has courses covering almost every subject and has more than 18,000 full-time students, including 2,500 international students, from over 120 countries. At the heart of every modern university is its computing service, and Manchester's is second to none in the UK. The computing services are hosted at Manchester Computing, In addition to providing support to the whole university, Manchester has extended to the rest of the UK. Manchester hosts MIMAS and CSAR, which are a national datasets service and supercomputing service, respectively. The CSAR service hosts the flagship computer for UK academia, so it is virtually guaranteed that whatever science is happening is happening on our machines. Again, the University of Manchester is delighted to be your host for CUG SUMMIT 2002, and we know you will enjoy the outstanding technical program offered by CUG as well as the city of Manchester itself and all its surroundings.
