Welcome

Dear CUG Members,

OSC (The Ohio Supercomputer Center) is excited to host CUG 2003. OSC is Ohio's high performance computing and networking center, located on The Ohio State University campus in Columbus, Ohio. Established in 1987 by the Ohio Board of Regents, the Center provides cutting-edge supercomputing resources for Ohio universities and access to the latest in technology education and training.

The year 2003 promises to be an inspiring year for the state of Ohio as well as for OSC. In 2003, Ohio will celebrate its bicentennial. At the same time, OSC will celebrate its 15th anniversary and its dynamic journey from the day when its first supercomputer, the Cray Y-MP 8/864, was installed. At the time, this was the largest supercomputer available in the world. This system serves as a monument to OSC's consistent support and commitment to innovation in the state.

Columbus--Ohio's capital--is located in the heart of the Buckeye State and is one of the nation's most robust metropolitan areas.

The community enjoys a rich and textured culture, with diverse opportunities for entertainment and educational growth and exploration. The economy thrives on a strong local technology base backed by a Midwestern can-do attitude.

Columbus' arts and cultural amenities rival those found in other major cities across the United States. With an abundance of galleries and performance spaces, exciting downtown festivals, and world-class restaurants, Columbus is a thriving hub of artistic talent, creative vision and inspiring enthusiasm.

OSC, Columbus and Ohio look forward to sharing these delights with you during CUG 2003.
