Our Theme

"Flight to Insight," the theme of CUG 2003, was chosen to honor Ohio's rich heritage and multiple contributions to the aerospace industry and to the world of technological insight and innovation. We are all familiar with the Wright Brothers, who designed and built the first airplane in their bicycle shop outside of Dayton, Ohio. Ohio is also proud to claim as natives pilot Eddie Rickenbacker and astronauts John Glenn, Nancy Currie, and Neil Armstrong. Through their insight and courage, advances have been made not only in aerospace but in many other areas as well.

Ohio is home to many other monuments of research, such as Battelle Memorial Institute and OSU in Columbus; National Inventors Hall of Fame in Akron; NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland; and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton.

In its 200-year history, Ohio has housed many inventors and risk takers including Thomas Edison, Harvey Firestone, and John D. Rockefeller. Those people's insight, innovation and courage inspired us in the past and spur us on today. OSC hopes to continue these advances with insights provided by the computational infrastructure that it makes available to researchers around the state. At CUG 2003, we will welcome creative minds from around the world to share their vision for the future.
