Conference Location

Here are some links to sites that will help you explore Columbus and its many fine attractions.

Our conference hotel is the Hyatt on Capitol Square.

The city’s premier business hotel is in the heart of the downtown government and financial district, across the street from the State Capitol and connected to City Center Mall, featuring more than 100 of central Ohio’s most exclusive shops. Adjacent to the beautifully restored Ohio Theater and within walking distance of dining and cultural attractions.

Breakfast, Lunch, and Refreshments

The conference fee includes continental breakfast, lunch, and refreshments during breaks, Monday through Friday.

Special accommodations and/or dietary requirements should be noted on the Conference registration form.

Messages

During the conference (May 12-16), telephone messages will be taken at the on-site CUG Conference Office (1-614) 228-1234 Fax: (1-413) 793-2752. The CUG Conference Office is in the Capitol Board Room. Messages may also be e-mailed to Kathryn Kelley at kkelley@osc.edu and will be posted on the Message Board.

Faxes

A fax machine is available at the CUG Conference Office for conference-related business.

E-mail and Personal Computers

An e-mail room will be equipped with personal computers running Windows and linux with Microsoft Office running on the Windows systems. SSH will be available on all systems. There will be a laser printer on the LAN as well. Two of the personal computers and the printer are designated for the use of speakers for last minute changes to presentations. You may also bring your laptop computer to the e-mail room and either connect to an ethernet hub or use wireless LAN, 802.11b cards for access to the LAN and the internet. Please note that you must provide any cables, wireless 801.11b cards, and power supplies required for your laptop. The ethernet hub accepts RJ-45 modular jacks. The E-mail room will not be available after noon on Friday.

Speaker Preparation

We invite speakers to use the personal computers and the printer in the E-mail Room for last minute changes. We will provide video projectors attached to a Windows PC in all technical and general session rooms. You may load your files on these PC’s from the workstations and/or your laptop from the E-mail room. If you plan to attach your laptop computer to the video projectors, we ask that you find time before sessions and during breaks to test your connection to the projector. Please come to the Conference Office if you need assistance.

Business Services

A complete set of business support services is available at the hotel. There is also a Kinkos 3 blocks from the hotel at 180 North High St., Columbus, Ohio. You can send documents to print at this store via the Kinko's web site.

Photocopying

A copy machine for making a limited number of copies is available in the Conference office. If you plan to distribute copies of your presentation, please bring sufficient copies with you. You may also have copies made at [the hotel bus offc and local providers, for a charge.

Voltage

The United States operates on a 120V system; those travelling from outside the US may need an adaptor. Check the Voltage Valet for information on requirements and to find adapters.

Special Assistance

Any requests for special assistance during the Conference should be noted on the "Special Requirements" area of the registration form, or you may contact the Local Arrangements Committee.

Smoking Policy

There is no smoking allowed at the Conference.

Social Events

Cray Inc. Reception

Cray Inc. will host a reception on Tuesday evening at a location nearby. All conference participants and their guests are invited to attend.

CUG Night Out

On Wednesday evening, all attendees are invited to enjoy the festivities arranged by the Local Arrangements Committee at the Capitol Theatre.

The 856-seat Capitol Theatre is part of the Riffe Center Theatre Complex located in the Vern Riffe Center for Government and the Arts. The facility is on S. High and State Street, across from the Ohio Statehouse in downtown Columbus. Opened in 1989, the Riffe Center Theatre Complex is managed by the Columbus Association for the Performing Arts (CAPA). The Capitol Theatre hosts performances by BalletMet and CAPA.

The Dave Powers Trio will provide jazz music to accompany our dinner. Orville Wright will join us to share tales about his aviation adventures and the nation's technological breakthroughs during his life.
