The Cray User Group invites you to its annual technical conference, CUG 2008, in Helsinki, Finland, May 5-8, 2008. Our conference venue is the Marina Congress Center. CSC, the Finnish IT center for science, is pleased to host this event.
Our theme for this event is "Crossing the Boundaries," which reflects on how the improvements both in computational science and High-Performance Computing have enabled coupled and cross-disciplinary simulations in many fields such as Earth System sciences, nanosciences, biotechnology, and various fields of engineering. The theme also refers to crossing the boundaries between academic research and industrial research, development and optimization, as well as the collaboration across national borders. These have been essential to CSC and Finland's many high-technology companies. Finally, we wish to look into the future and explore going beyond the earlier boundaries of the grand challenge problems in computational science.
CSC (home page www.csc.fi) is a part of the Finnish national research system. CSC provides and develops information technology services for universities and polytechnics, research institutions and companies. CSC is a non-profit company administered by the Ministry of Education.
CSC provides a wide variety of computing servers, but our flagship is the Cray XT4 system called Louhi. Louhi is a significant leap in the performance of computer resources available to Finnish researchers. It enables new kinds of research and increases accuracy of current simulation models. The first phase of Louhi is already in full customer use with the peak performance of 10.5 Tflops. The final assembly, including an upgrade to quad-core processors, will produce 70 Tflops peak performance, which will make Louhi one of the top supercomputers in Europe.
In order to take advantage of the lower fee we encourage you to register early. You will find all the necessary information about the venue, the hotel, and Helsinki and its surroundings using the links from the cug.org web site. Registration will be open by December 1, 2007.
We look forward to welcoming you to the maritime metropolitan area of Helsinki, surrounded by a vast archipelago.
Sincerely,
| Dr. Kimmo Koski CSC Managing Director |
